Hi. I'm Nancy Fowler. I have been breeding small dogs for 18 years and over time I have learned a lot about the traits and health of poodles, yorkiepoos and a little about the yorkies. I used to only have poodles and that was my "specialty". I thought... hey, how can you go wrong... I mean they're intelligent and don't shed, so I got my first one. As time went on, we decided to get another one (to keep the first one company). Deep down I loved the prospect of them having puppies since I was newly married and found out that I could never have any human children. I just needed to have something to love. Anyway, my wish came true... we did have a litter of poodles. I was so excited but I knew that we couldn't keep the babies because we lived in a small house in Chesnee so as hard as it was to see them go... I was so excited to see the expressions on the faces of the new owners. Then I thought...you know, I love making other people happy so I want to do this thing! So I obtained a couple more females, moved to a larger house and really started to go for it! I think that I had 7 or 8 by this time. I was still working a "real" job and it was kind of hard to keep them groomed and spend time with them like I needed to. Of course the breeding business didn't come close to paying the bills. In fact, it was costing more money to keep them groomed and healthy. But I loved it!
Anyway, I've always loved yorkies. They're so adorable! So I got my first female (her name was Bitsy). And oh she was so tiny. She slept with me and mainly stayed indoors. One day she was outside (doing her business) when I discovered that she was doing more than just going to the bathroom. To make a long story short... we had a litter of yorkiepoos 2 months later. I thought... wow, they are cute "mutts" and I think that I sold them for $75.00 each and the phone just wouldn't stop ringing from people wanting one. This is a good thing! But Bitsy was getting on up there in age so I couldn't keep her breeding. That's when I obtained my yorkie male Little Prints. Since Prints has become part of the family, our dog population has increased to around 25. He loves his "job" and I love putting smiles on other people's faces.
As I stated, I've learn a lot about the health of my puppies and I need you to be aware of one important thing which occurs in a lot of small animals.... and it's called coccidia. Coccidia is caused when a puppy encounters stress. For example.. when the change of enviroment happens or the change of diet. When I take their mother away from them, this is tramatic for the puppy, so I immediately medicate them them with Albon (which I get from my vet). They are on medication for at least 7 days so that they are eased into the process of being without "mamma". They also encounter trauma when they leave my house and go to another location. I love the puppies and I expect you to take the necessary steps in order to keep them healthy!!!!!!!. That's why I strongly advise people to take their new puppy to a vet within 3 or 4 days. The vet can easily detect if your puppy has coccidiosis by a stool sample. This is easily treated with the right medicine, but if left untreated, it will lead to diareah, lack of appetite, vomitting and shortly afterwards death. I keep my puppies for at least until they're 7-8 weeks old in order to ensure that the puppy is healthy. I WILL NOT SELL A SICK PUPPY!!!!!
